Today interactivity is the norm. We post our photos and thoughts on Facebook. We comment on our day or the latest news on Twitter. We ‘pin’ visual notes that we like on Pinterest. We are surrounded by touch screens, touch pads and sensors. We are used to sharing our opinions, casting our votes, and being ‘heard’. How can this appetite for interactivity translate into the arts? What methods can arts organisations employ to engage their audiences in new ways? How can new modes of participation open up new markets?

The Deakin University Arts Participation Incubator (API) asks these very questions, and brings together great thinkers and innovators in arts participation. The 10x10 showcase will launch the API’s program of events aimed at generating discussion and sharing information on audience participation in the Australian arts and cultural sector.

Hosted by Mr Wesley Enoch, Artistic Director of the Queensland Theatre Company, 10 speakers will give 10-minute presentations on current participative arts projects.

Speakers include:

Ms Robin Penty, Head of Participation and Public Programs, Arts Centre Melbourne; Ms Emily Sexton, Artistic Director, Next Wave Festival; Mr Nic Whyte, Creative Director and Co-Founder, Mona’s Art Processors; Ms Kiersten Fishburn, Director, Casula Powerhouse NSW, and Ms Lenine Bourke, Artistic Director, Contact Youth Arts Queensland.
